How the mighty have fallen! Whatever the truth of the allegations of sexual assault and rape brought against him in New York, Dominique Strauss-Kahn is guilty of horrific crimes. As the head of the IMF, he is guilty of the political rape of the working people and the poorest sections of society in many underdeveloped countries. He is guilty of the rape of Greece and Portugal. Before finding himself in prison, he contributed to locking millions of people into a living hell. His brutal “remedies” inflict suffering and hardship on the poor in order to protect the interests of the bankers, the capitalists, the rich.

This is a hugely relevant story. We can use a reprieve from my long theoretical article to discuss this, something more concrete.

But isn't he one of your fellow ideologues?
(Although I must admit I find the idea of a socialist heading up the biggest 'capitalist' financial institution a little hypocritical, but in tune with the general hypocrisy.)

DSK is about as much a socialist as is David Cameron. The French Socialist Party is socialist in name only and has - like the New Labour of Blair etc, totally adopted the neoliberal ideology of contemporary capitalism.
DSK is definitely not of our lot. Furthermore a genuine socialist would be for destroying the IMF not heading it.
Yeah, the term "socialist," as it's used by most contemporary Americans, but also by mainstream parties in France, Britain, and Spain is a mockery of the term as it was meant by its founders.

DSK aspired to be the French Tony Blair, to turn the French Socialist Party, to party doing the budget cuts Sarkozy can't perform. Like Obama can get away with things, Bush would have gotten lynched doing.

So who is a socialist then? I mean in todays politcal enviroment?

Sentinel: I endorse my comrades, and support other movements or parties. An example is Pakistan. I don't agree with the policies of the PPP, but because of its mass workers support, belong to the Pakistan People's Party.
If I was a US conservative, I might not like the US presidential nominee og the Republicans, but I'd vote Republican, to stay relevant.
