"Hasta Siempre, mi Comandante"... (Until Forever, my Commander) a Che classic. It certainly begs the question...

Hasta Cuando? (Until When?)

Berty: Thank you for visiting. Its been awhile.

To me it's a song. Politically I stay away from sentimental language.

Great Song. It was even better when Chavez, Morales, Lugo sang it at at the alternative summit of Davos...cant remember the name of the summit.

Simon Cowell would not approve (or would He?)

Haven't you all heard, el Comandante mando a parar.

When are you going to start listening to him? The Cubans did. Look at their economy... toilet paper's now a luxury item.

Or do you all want us to heed Sheryle Crowe's example?

Don't you all just love the new "green" economy?

Tony: Simon would hate it but I like the odd synth drums in the background.

Desert Mystery: I remember that conference. I'm sure the resolutions went unfullfilled.

Thank you for the other version plug.

Tony: Simon Cowell atleast understands the dialectic unconsciously.

FJ: Another argument against the embargo. Why the China growth? A nationalized economy meeting the world market.

Sheryl Crow is dead wrong. That's the difference between an enviromental activist and a socialist. Socialism isn't about giving up luxuries.

Daniel H-G: Simon would hate it.

Ren, I like the song, I do not much like the video....

Why do people always forgot the years of embargo by the US and others countries against Cuba before talking about how poor Cuba is?

Frank Partisan said...

Nevin: Even without the embargo, things would be hard for Cuba. You can't build socialism in just one country, particularly a poor island like that. Socialism in Venezuela, Mexico etc. would do it wonders.

Ummm. The OAS ended their embargo in 75. Why hasn't Cuba recovered enough to afford toilet paper in the intervening 34 years? The only people currently embargoing the Cubans is the good ole USA. Socialism doesn't work. Cuba is the living (if you can call it that) proof.

On the bright side, at least some age old agricultural techniques will never be lost...

SAN DIEGO, Cuba — In China it's the year of the ox — and it could be for Cuba, too.

President Raul Castro is promoting the beasts of burden as a way for the economically strapped communist country to ramp up food production while conserving energy.

He recently suggested expanding a pilot program that gives private farmers fallow government land to cultivate — but without the use of gas-guzzling machinery.

"For this program we should forget about tractors and fuel, even if we had enough. The idea is to work basically with oxen," Castro told parliament Aug. 1. "An increasing number of growers have been doing exactly this with excellent results."

I wonder why Hugo doesn't simply give them more gas for their tractors? Oh that's right, oil production is falling in Venezuela and for the first time in the country's history, Venezuela is importing coffee.... LOL!

Frank Partisan said...

FJ: Venezuela is a capitalist country. Oil production is determined by supply and demand. The price is low, so production is down.

Many poor countries don't have toilet paper. In Indonesia always shake hands with the left hand.

Cuba needs to expand the revolution beyond its borders. When Marx talked about the social nature of production, he wasn't talking about a country like Cuba. He meant like US, Germany etc.

Cuba went on a socialist path, because capitalists in the government, wouldn't allow the democratic revolution to proceed. Castro was anti-communist. The Communist Party of Cuba supported Batista, because of Stalin's line. Castro hated the CP.

Venezuela was a capitalist country. And Venezuelan oil production was falling when oil was still $140 a barrel. And blackouts since the the electric companies were "appropriated" have become more common. Food shortages across Venezuela are becoming increasingly more common since the capitalists are no longer willing to sell their products at government regulated prices for half the cost of production.

...and Cubans haven't practcied the "left hand rule" for centuries. They're "regressing" to a pre-industrial state.

Loo roll seems to have been invented in China.

Never knew that until just now.

Frank Partisan said...

Venezuela's economy is a capitalist economy, with the nationalized sector, a tiny part. If Chavez doesn't nationalize those that hoarde, he might lose.

Again you can't have an island of socialism, in a sea of capitalism.

Daniel: Huh?

Not selling at prices below cost is now classified as "hoarding".

No wonder domestic Venezuelan food production is vanishing...

Anonymous said...

Next thing you know they'll be limiting foods available for purchase...

and once that fails, they'll lift restrictions on Venezuelan peasants who want to farm... with oxen... instead of tractors.

Enjoy socialism people. You're guaranteed NOT to starve alone!

Oxen makes good soup.

...if you don't mind forgoing consuming any veggies next spring, that is.

Daniel Hoffmann-Gill said...

So no veggies as well? What a surprise, just the oxen it is then.
