It makes no sense. Also, as the author mentions RAWA before: that is also and more a human right issue than a feminist one. Also: and I fully agree with it: anti-gl;obalist tendencies seem (or are often) rather fascistic in character, so no wonder that sometimes one can hardly tell the difference between the KKK and the so called radical left. It would be nice to leave the slogans behind, and deal with the specific problems. Whenever I see the left praising Ahmadinejad, it gives me the creeps. Or North Korea. Everything cannot be explained in the terms of class fight, hence the use of "right" "left" imperialisT" etc is obsolete. And as long as the old wars are fought once again, the same mistakes will be repeated once again, and again and again.Agneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14427327588753930703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11704331.post-1163661875857167952006-11-16T01:24:00.000-06:002006-11-16T01:24:00.000-06:00That capitalism shouldn't survive is the important...That capitalism shouldn't survive is the important issue. On one obvious level, Western capital needs to continue to control the oil and other traditional resources in this part of the world. And from a geo-strategic point of view, whichever particular capitalists control the Middle East and Central Asia will have a tremendous advantage over their capitalist rivals, including rapidly emerging powers like China. I like the way it...Thanks for posting the article. I like the way it points out the multiple forces opposed to liberation, freedom, and democracy. It leads one to speculate on what a US exit from Iraq means. At some point after withdrawal, some reactionary forces will gain control of the country again and stabilize an oppressive regime. Leftist aspirations for the liberation of Iraq will fall by the wayside. Women’s struggle for liberation will be the measurement of just how badly things have turned out.

The US should withdraw from Iraq immediately, but powerful reactionary forces will remain in control and continue to be the enemies of liberation. That was baked into the cake from the beginning.

Right wing wars for freedom and democracy are never designed to accomplish their conventional sloganeering.Lynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12303928618967944030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11704331.post-1163513468490865152006-11-14T08:11:00.000-06:002006-11-14T08:11:00.000-06:00The person who wrote this should write a book.Whoo...The person who wrote this should write a book.

Whoops. There is a tension here and they both may be true to some extent.

The over all theme of lack of female leadership is something my wife and I have been discussing for years but struggled to locate within the whole terrain of anti-capitalism.Also the feminism versus religious fundamentalism quandry, where here in the modern west we see so many religious , reactionary women espousing the glories of patriarchy! We get Laura Bush espousing liberation for Muslim women while she listens to her evangelical preacher talk about womens "role".

Up here in militant Aryan/ patriot militia/ libertarian country you realize these people have no coherant ideology. They are alienated, confused, angry and stupid.Whether it is changing gender roles or racial identity or economic status, they feel they have fallen down the rabbit hole.troutskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16020298501632120830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11704331.post-1163507391913914132006-11-14T06:29:00.000-06:002006-11-14T06:29:00.000-06:00GodDAMN, looks like a great read, and something to...GodDAMN, looks like a great read, and something to start some discussion. And I ag...This article does point up a big problem. And I agree that you can't fight imperialism turning your back on the reactionary (I'm not sure the label fascist is appropriate) nationalist forces.

I think that the article makes the mistake of equating the anti-imperialism of the left and the right.

The right's anti-imperialism is not consistent. It is that of the declassed petty bourgeoisie wanting to recover their property rights or grab new property. They will do deals with imperialism. Indeed their vicious infighting is to see who can become the local agents of imperialism.

Yes, they are reactionary in the sense of patriarchal, tribalist, semi-feudalist forces wanting to defend patriarchy and capitalisn,to share in the plunder, and as part of the deal with imperialism will put down the revolutionary masses.

The left if it is in the vanguard of the proletariat (including the unemployed) has a consistent interest in defeating imperialism, and in that process therefore must also defeat the reactionary nationalist forces.

In places like Iraq the opportunity for proletarian anti-imperialism (which includes women in a leading role)to develop into a viable military force would require absolute independence of the reactionary nationalists.

Trotskyists always want to avoid what happened in China in 1927 when the leadership of the CCP was massacred by Chiang Kai Chek because it was advised by Stalin to subordinate itself to this reactionary nationalist leader.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11704331.post-1163492254928312822006-11-14T02:17:00.000-06:002006-11-14T02:17:00.000-06:00What a long series of comments.
