I'll be damned if I can find even a hint of solutions offered. Not even a hint of "constructive" criticism.
Let's take a few quotes and examine them:
"American policy since the occupation of Iraq has been to foment tensions between religious and ethnic groups"
"the predatory and criminal nature of US foreign policy"
"ruling elite.. does not have one iota of concern for lives.."
Statements such as these are so "over-the-top" that any serious thinking person will immediately recognize it as just another far left wing negative polarizing diatribe. What is the message and central theme: Criticize, criticize and criticize but never, ever offer solutions.
Maybe its time for anger management or at least a nap for the chronic criticizers.romanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15988548647887978919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11704331.post-1145008226564059412006-04-14T04:50:00.000-05:002006-04-14T04:50:00.000-05:00Pipe's is a moron. An Iraqi civil war would make us...Pipe's is a moron.

An Iraqi civil war would make us all safer at home?

Quite apart from the fact that we are not much in danger of anything at home (apart from getting run over in the street by an SUV, etc) how would the people of London have been safer at home on 7 July?

These were British boys, with no connection to the mythical al-Qaeda (says the official repoprt out last week) who went down to the capital for a day trip and blew themselves to bits? Criticize, criticize and criticize but never, ever offer solutions.
They make it sound as if this conflict between Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds were a new phenomenon introduced by the coalition presence. Violence between these groups before invasion was only tempered by the greater brutality and violence perpetrated by Saddam Hussein and his goons.
While I agree to a great extent with Pipes' analysis of the Iraqi situation, I dissagree with the notion that the coalition goal for democracy has been abandoned. The choices that were freely made by the Iraqi voters cannot be undone and will hopefully result in a more stable government no matter what that government looks like.romanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15988548647887978919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11704331.post-1144954319658462222006-04-13T13:51:00.000-05:002006-04-13T13:51:00.000-05:00More imperialist Pipe dreaming? Control is what i...More imperialist Pipe dreaming?

Control is what is important for an imperialist power. Pipes gives his prescription. But then, he did that before when he urged the U.S. government to invade Iraq and perform the miracle of regime change.

The truth is that the situation is getting out of imperialist control. The truth is what the anti-war movement was pointing out from the get-go. Once the invasion began, the conflagration began to spread and 'stability' that necessary ingrediant for capitalist social relations to flouish, starteda to disappear. But, no worries (Texas oilmen) mates. The price of crude is skyrocketing and will get even higher as the ruling class allows bozos like Pipes to advise them on the tactics (bomb Iran) for achieving their imperialist strategic goal: a nice, stable bourgeois democratic Iraq where oil flows smoothly into tankers labeled Shell, BP and Esso.Mike Ballardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05410520975856239745noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11704331.post-1144937559151276442006-04-13T09:12:00.000-05:002006-04-13T09:12:00.000-05:00This is a classic confrontation between a cynic (P...This is a classic confrontation between a cynic (Pipes) and a hypocrite (the author of the article in question). The hypocrite cannot believe that someone would actually tell the truth, because his own tactic has always been to lie, not only to others, but also to himself.

Thing is, honesty is often more effective than hypocritical lies.

Pipes is a disillusioned neo-con... After Hamas and Armajiadian victories, his enthusiasm for democracy has evaporated.

'America’s good at open warfare. It’s just not good at occupying countries' is a bull's-eye (and very perceptive) comment. 100% true.

As for the moralistic tone of the article, those socialists can fuck themselves. They have exterminated more people than all the other ideologies combined. But unlike Pipes, they don't even have the guts to admit it and tell it like it is...soniahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00938174968325568608noreply@blogger.com
