Token Open Thread Excluding Spam: Blog Surf

Occasional poster here Sphinx at Morning Fire has a long post about the Palestinian situation. It is worth reading, with much to discuss, as the nature of Hamas, Fatah and the boycott of Israeli academics.

I have been having correspondance with a surrealist blogger at The Midlope, including talking about Trotsky's relationship with Andre Breton and Diego Rivera

One of my favorite blogs is Histologian. This Greek journalist has a story about agent provocateurs in large demonstrations including the anti-globalization movements. The Republican Party convention will be in St. Paul, MN, and I expect it to be a provocateurs gathering.

Louis Proyect The Unrepentant Marxist, has a story about the checkered history of "The Nation Magazine", initiated by after Cindy Sheehan quit the antiwar movement, she denounced the Democratic Party. "The Nation" and the MSM left out her attacks on the party. The magazine goes back to the days of the abolitionists. Even at that time, their politics was as sharp as a butter knife.

ADDENDUM

My friend wrestled Chris Benoit when he was a rookie, wrestling in Calgary. He was a loose cannon even then. My friend saw him hit a child in a wheelchair. That was a glimpse of things to come. Benoit didn't have a steroid problem, he always was a sociopath. The murders were not rage killings, they were ritualistic and planned.

Alright brother you win, you have shamed me. But that was a low blow suggesting that JB and I would be more at home on beakinsteins blog. I've taken the beakinstein post down and most others and as discussed will be ignoring him in the future. You are right there are more important things to worry about. I will be preparing my posts for the coming World War III. Good luck. I'll leave you with a song.

I plan on being in the Cities during the convention.

I'll sleep better at night knowing you and a gathering of provocateurs will be representing us at the RNC!

I wish I could make it out west to Denver, Democrats need some attention too.

Hi Renegade Eye! Thanks for linking to the Histologian's post. It's a great post and a great blog. I would not have found it without your help.

Thanks most especially for the surrealist link, which links with other similar sites.

Renegade Eye: I understand the concept of dissent, but why must these "provacateurs" and anti-this and that's resort to violence, as they usually do? Please enlighten me.

Frank Partisan said...

Welcome Incognito. I think you'll have fun debating issues here.

I think that is a legitimate question.

Agent provocateurs represent different interests. Often they are employed by management, to mislead labor into an unlawful activity. They also monitor for management.

They play roles in sting operations, often bordering on illegal activities.

I believe a politically focused, peaceful, legal demonstration is 1000x more subversive than a window breaking spree.

During the 1960s FBI agents pretended to be members of radical groups, to mislead into activities that would discredit the groups.

I prefer the World Socialist Web Site's three-part skewering of the Nation a couple of weeks ago.

Ana: Thank you for commenting.

Focused politics speaks in word and deed.

If arrests can be avoided they should. You don't want to be diverted into having to raise bail, and go through courts.

High moral ground is good tool.

Matt: It seems as "The Nation" defines the "kitsch" left's limits in discourse.

When Stalin's agents made their first assasination attempt on Trotsky, he was remarkably calm. On the basis that he was calm as evidence, they accused him of staging his own assasination act. Later evidence proved The Nation again tailing Stalinism.

And here is the shallow me: I thought that guy was hot! But after the hitting child and sociopath thing, it is a no-no. He is all yours to keep. ;)

Excuse me for interrupting, Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

But you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you.

If I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away.

Come and see the violence inherent in the system. Help! Help! I'm being repressed! Stop screaming bloody peasant! What a giveaway! Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's what I'm on about! Did you see him repressing me? You saw him, Didn't you?

You know of course that I am talking of King Hugo

As a kid, there were 3 magazines that my parents always had subscriptions to: The Nation, Mother Jones, and National Geographic. I'm very grateful that my parents made sure we girls were exposed to such journalism because it made us far more aware of current events than most of our peers.
My parents still get Mother Jones. It figures though given that my steel worker/union steward dad and nurse mom drilled into the heads of my sisters and I that when we became adults, we must always vote, work hard, demand justice, and be good mothers... and also remember to respect the "Holy Trinity" of proud American working women: The Virgin Mary, Emma Goldman, and Mary Harris "Mother" Jones.
Renegade, you scoff at the The Virgin Mary? C'mon. Whad'ya want? I was raised in a Catholic/ Romanian Orthodox household.

Tina: The punditry circuit is very corrupting. People like Katrina vanden Heuvel and before her Christopher Hitchens, start getting speakers fees that increase, as one becomes more comfortable in that millau.

There are certainly worse publications than "The Nation".

King Hugo: There will be more Venezuela posts in the future. I'm resting up for the occasion.

Ramo: I think steroids are incidental to whatever was wrong with Chris Benoit.

Benoit's old friends Dynamite Kid and Davey Boy Smith used to think it was funny to put Halcion in their victims beer.

All the way to the 80s, even maybe after the 80s.

politiques USA: In the days when it was easy to get Freedom of Information files, I received mine. I was followed by the FBI in high school.

I was accused of wild things. I was accused of plotting to start a race riot, at a summer parade in Minneapolis. Interesting considering I hate parades, and don't attend them.

Did you write a story on what happened to you in the older days? I would be interested to find out more.
